Hang Loose - Tony
Hi a quick update for you
early 23rd left Heathrow arrived 24th at 15:20 during which time an arcraft went tits up and we all boarded a bus just to be transprted 20 meterts to the next available plane - Indians for you or is that cowboys?
25th Feb got on the bikes for the first time mine had 34Kms on the clock and was pristine. It took some time getting use to with the gear box and controls on the opposite side to what we are all used to and of course upside down to make things a little more interesting. Plus there were 76 of us riding round in circles in the hotel car park. It was damnd hot and it amused the locals.
Since being here we have experienced all India has to throw at us trafic weather scenery and the way they drive and wander the streets as if trafic can wait. but it doesn't. I have come off the bike fourtimes now (Today is 2nd Mar) and we have just stopped for the day and have just 2 days remaining of the cahllenge.
1st Fall practice day 2 - my own fault of course, I followed Randy (yes a yank and Harley rider) up a steep outcrop of rocks I went up about 3/4 of the way before the bike stalled and I came down backwords all the way to the bottom faster than I went up but dropped it as I couldnt see where I was going.
2nd Fall Enduro day 2 - we were having a really good fast ride through hairpin after hairpin and decided to rig up the helemet cam - the ide being I woulf\d follow Justin through the turns and get it on video - we went through them like mental bikers really tearing up tyhe roads, Well you would wouldn't you? locking up the back end to swing the rear round, eventually we took it too far and whilst I was negotiating a group of bikers and a right hairpin I skidded it round and the foot peddle dug into the road and highsided me fliping me up the other way and spitting me out of the bend - all captured on video - I escaped unharmed but the bike was a little battered (a jap bike would have been written off!) -
3rd fall Enduro day 2 - we decided to go safely after i fell so trundled on down the mountain when justin decided to stop for photographs and overshot the bend hitting the wall I lost concentration and when I looked forward I was headed for the wall I took evasive action threw it over and ran into some sand and leaves and slid over... shouldn't have happened...
4th fall still day 2 of the enduro - we were again enjoying the ride and the twisties when we came to a bridge we\here some others had stopped to get a rest and take some photographs Justin slammed on his achours and skidded to a halt I couldn't stop in time and took him out and ended up on the floor with my foot under the bike petrol and oil all over the place. everyone was laughing and taking pictures (Ideal opportunity) untill I politely asked them to get the bike off my leg.
All in all theis is a fantastic country to visit the people are the most friendly I have ever encountered even though there driving is the worst I have experianced we have seen no accidents other tahan a few of our own and absolutely no road rage... this is turning out to be a bloody good trip and I have ammased many months riding experience in just a few days. I have hundred of photos which I will publish when I return and some good video footage of the country the and the ride.
until the next time I find an internet connection...
Well all the money is in and paid, airline tickets booked, I have had the inocculations (pin cussion or what) seems like I'm on deployment again even have to take Paladrin (Mozzi tabs). I have the Visa sent for well inadvance don't want to not go because I have lost the passport now do I?
I have also bought personal insurance for the trip (£60) and covers this kind of excursion, brilliant, thank you Carol Nash. I have also been shopping on Ebay for a body armour jacket so I do not have to wear UK a style motorcycle jacket - far too hot for that kind of baggage, cost £89 but better than £135 new. An open face helemet brand new for only £32 again on Ebay.
